ONLYOFFICE 10.0 Lands: 50 New Features, a Real PDF Editor, and AI That's Fully Optional
The open-source office suite's biggest update in years brings an AI module you can completely uninstall, four new modular apps, and a genuinely useful PDF editor. Here's what actually changed.
The open-source office suite just shipped its biggest update in years. ONLYOFFICE 10.0 brings around 50 new features and more than 1,000 fixes — but the headline isn't any single feature. It's the approach: an AI module you can completely uninstall, servers that can run local models so your documents never leave the building, and 35 patched vulnerabilities. This is what a 2026 office suite looks like when it takes privacy seriously instead of treating AI as a mandate.
AI in ONLYOFFICE 10.0: the part you'll actually want
Every editor — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs — now has a dedicated AI tab with built-in chat. You can draft, summarize, translate, clean up, and format without copying text into a separate tool. From the desktop start window, AI Chat works without even opening a file: attach a document, ask for what you want, get it back.
The practical stuff is genuinely useful: turn a DOCX into a fillable form, have a spreadsheet checked for formula errors, generate pivot tables and charts from raw data, rewrite a deck's text, merge and split PDFs, or redact sensitive parts of a document. Quick AI actions handle one-off tasks like changing tone; saved prompts handle the repetitive ones; AI assistants react to your edits as you type.
Here is the part that matters most: on the desktop, all of this arrives as a separate module you download yourself. There is no pre-installed AI component — enable it through the AI Chat or AI Tools sidebar and hit Accept & Install, or never touch it and get an AI-free editing experience with zero extra clicks. Removing it is a Settings toggle. Cloud users get AI through OpenRouter; self-hosted servers can plug in any model, including local ones running on Ollama, LM Studio, or GPT4ALL. Your data stays inside your own infrastructure, which is the whole point for legal, healthcare, finance, and government teams.
Four new modular apps, free under AGPL v3
Version 10.0 extends ONLYOFFICE Docs with four new modular apps, all free under the AGPL v3 license: AI Agents, Forms, Files, and Rooms.
AI Agents brings intelligent search, a personal knowledge base, and extended reasoning to the workspace, powered by MCP servers. Forms streamlines collecting data and uses AI to analyze responses. Files centralizes document storage with granular access controls. And Rooms adds secure collaboration spaces — including virtual data rooms built for confidential content.
That last one is the sleeper hit. Virtual data rooms are the boring-but-expensive product that deal teams pay thousands for during due diligence. Getting one inside an open-source suite — on by default in the cloud, one command away on a server — is the kind of move that makes procurement departments pay attention.
The PDF editor finally grew up
ONLYOFFICE's PDF tool used to be a viewer wearing an editor's costume. Version 10.0 fixes that: you can strip metadata with the Redact tool, annotate properly, have tables recognized automatically, and reuse signatures across forms. You can also just ask the AI questions about a PDF and get answers — summarization and redaction included.
Combine that with documents that convert to fillable forms, co-authors who can follow each other's cursors in real time, and spreadsheets that run noticeably faster — SUMIF and COUNTIFS got optimized, with formula hints and an animated copy marquee — and the suite feels like it finally escaped the shadow of its paid competitors.
The rest of 10.0: speed, polish, and mobile
- Documents: "Keep with next" keeps related content together, and right-to-left support is more reliable.
- Presentations: new view modes, extended print settings, and export slides as GIFs or videos.
- Files: work with .ofd files, save spreadsheets in .xls, convert SVGs into editable shapes, add Data Tables to charts.
- Plugins: new Antidote, Curly, and Salesforce plugins, plus a redesigned Plugin Manager that doesn't make you hunt.
- Desktop: refreshed homepage, redesigned Templates and Clouds sections, Odoo as a new cloud provider, visual polish on Linux, and tab context menus on macOS.
- Mobile: the free iOS and Android apps add an AI assistant with new providers like Grok and DeepSeek, AI AutoFill for forms, and voice input.
And under the hood: 35 vulnerabilities fixed. For an office suite that organizations trust with contracts, financials, and patient records, that hardening matters as much as any feature.
Who should switch — and who shouldn't
If you are paying for Microsoft 365 seats mostly to edit documents, ONLYOFFICE 10.0 deserves a serious trial — especially if you can self-host. The format fidelity with Office files has always been its strong suit, and the optional AI plus local-model support answers the privacy objection that used to end the conversation. It also pairs well with other desktop-first tools; if you like owning your software, eM Client 11 made the same case for email.
Who should skip it? If your work lives in Google Docs' real-time collaboration with outside clients, stay put — Google's advantage there is real. And if you are shopping AI writing tools more broadly, our AI tool stack guide covers the assistants that work outside office suites.
ONLYOFFICE says over 21 million people use it. With 10.0, I finally believe that number is going up.
