NTT DATA Opens Jakarta 2 Annex, a 12MW AI-Ready Data Center

NTT DATA opened its Jakarta 2 Annex data center on November 3, adding 12MW of AI-ready capacity to its Jakarta campus, plus Indonesia's first All-Photonics Network service linking its three Jakarta sites.

Jakarta 2 Annex: What Opened

NTT DATA announced on November 3, 2026, the opening of its Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A), a next-generation, AI-ready facility providing 12MW of IT capacity. The facility integrates high-tech cooling, resilient power infrastructure, and carrier-neutral connectivity to support hyperscale, enterprise, and high-density computing workloads. It sits within NTT Global Data Centers' Jakarta campus and extends the ecosystem of JKT2, one of Jakarta's leading carrier-neutral connectivity hubs.

The Jakarta 2 Annex matters because of what it plugs into. JKT2 hosts more than 240 network service providers, the Jakarta Internet Exchange, major cloud service providers, and critical submarine cable connections. A new building on that campus is not just 12MW of capacity; it is 12MW of capacity inside one of the region's densest interconnection points, where networks, clouds, and cables already meet.

APN Connect: Indonesia's First All-Photonics Network Service

Alongside the opening, NTT DATA is launching APN Connect, described as Indonesia's first service using All-Photonics Network (APN) technology. Based on Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) technology, APN Connect offers high-capacity, low-latency Layer 1 connectivity between JKT2, JKT2A, and JKT3, which sit about 35km apart.

In practical terms, photonic networking moves data as light end to end, cutting the conversion delays that pile up when signals switch between optical and electrical domains. For AI workloads split across multiple sites, or for enterprises replicating data between Jakarta facilities, lower latency between campuses is a genuine operational advantage, not just a spec sheet line. Whether APN Connect finds buyers beyond NTT's existing campus tenants is the question to watch, but as a first-in-market service it gives NTT a differentiator its Jakarta rivals cannot yet match.

Jakarta's Data Center Race Is Heating Up

JKT2A is not opening in a vacuum. Days earlier, SM+ launched SMX01 in Jakarta's central business district, a 21MW AI-ready facility with liquid cooling and up to 130kW per rack, with Taiwanese cloud provider Konst leasing 15MW of liquid-cooled capacity as its first deployment in Indonesia. Two AI-ready openings in Jakarta within days tells you how fast Southeast Asia's capacity race is moving.

The contrast is instructive. SM+ is a newer local platform backed by Sinar Mas, building its footprint from scratch. NTT DATA is a global operator extending an established campus. Both are chasing the same demand: Indonesian enterprises and global clouds that want AI capacity inside the country, close to users, on grids they trust. The KT Cloud two-track expansion in South Korea shows the same pattern playing out across the region: incumbents sold out of capacity, building and leasing their way to more of it.

What This Means for Cloud Buyers

For buyers, the practical takeaway is choice. Jakarta now has more AI-ready, carrier-neutral capacity from both global and local operators, with different cooling, power density, and interconnection stories. The questions to ask have not changed: how much power per rack can you actually use, how resilient is the power and cooling, and how many networks and clouds can you reach from inside the building. JKT2A's answer on the last point is strong, thanks to the JKT2 ecosystem, and APN Connect adds a low-latency option between campuses that few rivals can offer.

The bigger picture is the one Big Tech's $720 billion data center bet keeps returning to: AI infrastructure spending is enormous, and Southeast Asia is getting a growing share of it. Jakarta's new capacity is a small piece of that total, but for companies operating in Indonesia, local capacity is what matters. The Alibaba Cloud Netherlands region shows the same logic in Europe: capacity follows demand, and demand follows users. Jakarta 2 Annex is NTT DATA betting that Indonesia's AI demand is real, growing, and worth building for now.
