iOS 27.2 Siri AI Arrives in Five More Languages

Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, the first major updates to the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 systems that launched in September. The headline for most users is iOS 27.2 Siri AI: the assistant now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, after launching in English only. By the end of 2026, Apple says Siri AI will also add Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Siri AI is still not available in the EU or mainland China, a restriction Apple notes in its release notes.

The update is available for all iPhones able to run iOS 27, including the iPhone Duo, and all iPads able to run iPadOS 27, including the newly announced OLED iPad mini. Apple also released macOS Golden Gate 27.2, tvOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2 on the same day, so this is a platform-wide update, not just an iPhone patch. If you have automatic updates on, you may already have it.

What Siri AI Can Do Now

Siri AI can now recall past conversations, so you can ask about something it told you before, like restaurants it recommended last week. It can draw from more sources for answers, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List. It also adds an Excluded Apps setting, letting you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access from one place, and granular text selection so you can copy just part of a Siri response.

On Apple Watch, Siri AI is faster and can draw on more sources from your phone. On Mac, the same memory and context improvements arrive in macOS 27.2, alongside redesigned brightness and volume sliders. The practical effect is a Siri that feels less like a voice command tool and more like an assistant that remembers context, which is useful if you actually use it for planning, and easy to ignore if you do not.

Messages, Photos, and the Rest of the Update

Beyond Siri, iOS 27.2 adds suggestions in Messages that help you take action based on conversation context, like adding a Calendar invite for a dinner you just discussed. Shared Albums in Photos can now edit captions and comments, avoid duplicate photos, and warn before albums expire so participants can save important photos and videos. The Apple TV app gains profiles, Apple Music gets a new icon and branding, and the EU gets an alternative expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency.

The update also supports SynthID, an AI verification tool that can help identify whether an image was generated or modified with Apple's Image Playground or in Photos. That is a small feature with a larger point: as AI-generated images spread, knowing provenance matters, and Apple is building that check into the system rather than leaving it to third-party apps.

Should You Update Now, and What to Check First

For most users, yes, update, but do the usual housekeeping first. Back up your phone, check that you have enough free storage, and install over Wi-Fi with the phone charged. If you rely on Siri in English, the language expansion will not change your day, but the memory and Excluded Apps controls are worth a look. If you use Siri in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, or Spanish, this is the update you have been waiting for since September.

One caution: Siri AI requires iPhone 16 models and later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Older iPhones will get the rest of iOS 27.2 but not the Siri AI features. If you are on an older device and wondering why Siri looks unchanged after updating, that hardware cutoff is the reason.
